RISC_PLUS
Prevention, Preparedness and Digitisation
Resilience to the Risks of Floods and Droughts derived from the impact of Climate Change in the International Basins of the Miño and Limia Rivers.
The RISC_PLUS project aims to extend and improve the RISC_ML initiative, focusing on the Miño-Limia/Lima International River Basin Demarcation. It aims to move towards a single hydrological plan to strengthen resilience to climate change, in line with the Water Framework Directive.
Through transboundary cooperation between basin organisations and research centres, RISC_PLUS will focus on:
-
Improving hydrological knowledge
-
Optimising decision-making systems for droughts
-
Improving decision-making systems for floods
-
Assessing socio-economic impact

Scope of the project
Strategic Alliances
RISC_PLUS operates in the international river basin district of the Miño and Limia river basins, which covers an area of 19,551.91 km² (89.92% in Spain and 10.08% in Portugal).
The strength of the project lies in the complementarity of four collaborating entities: the competent authorities for the management of the Miño and Limia rivers (CHMS and APA) in the Spanish and Portuguese parts and two reference research centres (UVIGO and FEUP) in Galicia and Northern Portugal.
Together, they bring the necessary expertise to address climate challenges in this critical area.
It has a budget of €1,610,048.15.
Aim of the project
Water Innovation for a Sustainable Future
The RISC_PLUS project builds on the experience of RISC_ML to strengthen resilience to floods and droughts in the international Miño and Limia river basins. This effort not only prevents and prepares against such challenges, but also drives digitalisation in international water management, ensuring water security, protecting biodiversity and supporting socio-economic activities.
