The autonomous body invested around €47,000 in the installation of a new station for the Automatic Hydrological Information System (SAIH).
The Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation (CHMS) has completed the installation of a new Automatic Hydrological Information System (SAIH) station on the Támoga River, as it passes through Toiral, in the municipality of Cospeito.
The project, which involved an investment of around €47,000, has enabled the commissioning of a new hydrological monitoring station, which incorporates specific civil engineering works, a radar sensor for continuous monitoring of the water level in the riverbed, and equipment for recording rainfall and ambient temperature.
The station also includes a data acquisition and processing system that sends the recorded information every five minutes to the Basin Control Center (Cecu) in Ourense.
Real-time information
“This action strengthens real-time observation capabilities in the Miño-Sil river basin,” explains the CHMS, adding that the incorporation of new technologies provides more accurate information on the hydrometeorological behavior of the territory, “optimizing water resource management and planning in the face of adverse events.”
“The expansion of the SAIH Network represents a significant advance in the protection of the environment, the territory, and the population. Access to reliable, real-time data facilitates more effective decision-making by the competent authorities, promoting prevention, preparedness, and response to extreme events such as floods or droughts,” the agency notes.
The action is part of the European Poctep Risc_Plus project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg VI A Spain-Portugal 2021-2027 program.
