La Voz de Galicia | A European project promotes river care among the students of CEIP do Xurés in Lobios.

The Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation and the University of Vigo promoted the activity.

The CEIP Plurilingüe do Xurés de Lobio participated this Friday in the educational activity ‘Rivers that unite us’, organised in the framework of the European project POCTEP RISC_PLUS. The event, promoted by the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation, the University of Vigo, the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente and the University of Porto, took place in the surroundings of the Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Natural Park. It combined educational and playful dynamics to raise awareness among students about the importance of rivers and the impact of climate change.

The activity was aimed at infant and primary school children. Through games and reflections adapted to their age, they learned about the need to conserve the river ecosystems shared between Galicia and northern Portugal. In addition, the drawing competition ‘Caring for my river with the help of the European Union’ was held, which allowed children to express their ideas for protecting the natural environment.

The initiative reinforces the RISC_PLUS project’s commitment to environmental education and cross-border cooperation, promoting a more aware citizenship in the face of challenges such as floods. The participating entities advocate that international collaboration, science and education can come together to foster respect for the environment from childhood. By directly involving students in the protection of their natural environment, the project not only transmits knowledge, but also promotes values of responsibility.
