The new station will join those operating in Ribas Altas and Vilasouto.
The Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation is expanding its network of automatic hydrological information systems with a new installation in the municipality of Quiroga, through which it obtains real-time information useful for water resource management and flood forecasting and control. The works have a budget of 44,000 euros and are co-financed with European funds from the FEDER program. Currently, the so-called SAIH network has 16 flow measurement points throughout the Miño-Sil demarcation.
Preliminary work is currently being carried out prior to the commissioning of the Quiroga station. The civil works are completed with the installation of instruments that will monitor the water level in the riverbed, rainfall, and ambient temperature, as well as the system for acquiring and processing data recorded at the new control point. The information will be transmitted every five minutes to the Basin Control Center located in Ourense.
This data serves as a reference for the hydrographic confederation to formulate measures for extreme episodes such as floods or prolonged drought periods. In southern Lugo, control points with these characteristics operate at the Vilasouto reservoir, in O Incio, and on the Cabe River upstream from Monforte’s urban center, in the parish of Ribas Altas.
