The University of Vigo, as a partner of the RISC_PLUS project, has participated in an educational day at the La Purísima School in Ourense, aimed at students in the 4th year of ESO. The session focused on the impact of climate change and flood risk management in the Miño and Limia river basins.
During the talk, the UVigo team explained the functioning of the Early Warning System for floods, a fundamental tool for the prevention and management of water emergencies. This system allows real-time monitoring of water levels and river flows, facilitating decision-making and the activation of emergency protocols well in advance.
The meeting raised students’ awareness of the importance of water management and adaptation to climate change, promoting greater awareness of the environmental challenges of the future.
The RISC_PLUS project also involves the participation of the Minho-Sil Hydrographic Confederation (CHMS), the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA) and the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) as partners. Together, they work to strengthen resilience to floods and droughts in the international hydrographic demarcation of the Minho and Limia rivers, promoting innovative solutions in water management.
